Every effort on this Gallery site has been made to accurately represent the vibrant colours of Sam’s images. Due to differences in computer screens and certain other variations, the images here should only to be taken as a guide. Obviously, the colour and sharpness of a finished print are far superior to what can be presented on a small screen.
Sabyinyo and Gahinga Volcanoes
$270.00 – $2,500.00
This was the morning I was visiting the mountain Gorillas. My driver asked me if I would like a nice pic of the Volcanoes so he took me to this spot. We were very lucky to get a fairly clear sky.
Mount Gahinga is an extinct volcano in the Virunga Mountains on the border between Rwanda and Uganda. Gahinga lies between Muhabura and Sabyinyo, but is the smallest of these three. Mount Gahinga, also known in the local Kinyarwanda/Rufumbira dialect as “a small pile of stones”, has a swampy caldera on its peak.
Mount Sabinyo has three summits standing at 3423 metres, 3537 meters and 3669 meters. The last peak is a mark of the border tht unites Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic republic of Congo.
