Colobus Monkey

$210.00$2,700.00

We had just checked out of the Sopa lodge in Lake Naivasha when this guy showed up to give us a show. He jumped around and entertained us like it was meant to be. The name “colobus” is derived from the Greek word for “mutilated,” because unlike other monkeys, colobus monkeys do not have thumbs. Their beautiful black fur strongly contrasts with the long white mantle, whiskers, bushy tail, and beard around the face. The Eastern black-and-white is distinguishable by a U-shaped cape of white hair running from the shoulders to lower back, whereas the Angolan black-and-white has white hairs flaring out only at the shoulders.

Located in Nakuru County, Lake Naivasha is a large freshwater lake which sits just outside the town of Naivasha. Situated at an elevation of 1,884m, Lake Naivasha is the highest lake within the Great Rift Valley. With a surface area of 139km², Lake Naivasha dominates the landscape, and it is surrounded by a swamp which covers an area of around 64km². Beyond the swampland, the lake is encircled by forests of the fever tree. Lake Naivasha’s surface area depends on rainfall and the lake dried up completely in the early c.20th.

Every effort on this Gallery site has been made to accurately represent the vibrant colours of Sam’s images. Due to differences in computer screens and certain other variations, the images here should only to be taken as a guide. Obviously, the colour and sharpness of a finished print are far superior to what can be presented on a small screen.
